 Player Development 2011
April 16 - 17, 2011
Birmingham, AL

  • Are you interested in playing competitive hockey?
  • What about college hockey?
  • The Olympics?
  • Are you interested in pushing to develop your hockey skills further?

If the answer to any of these questions then yes, then read on!!

USA Hockey provides national camps for US citizens that are the best of the best. To be selected for these camps, players start in their own affiliates. They attend affiliate selection weekends and if selected move on to the district selection process. Those players who are selected at the district level then have the priviledge of attending one of the USA Hockey summer development camps. These camps are available for 14-17 year olds.

Not yet 14? The Southeastern District holds a camp for the 13 year olds (second year peewee) to help prepare them to enter the USA Hockey programs the following year. Each affiliate in the Southeastern District sends 20 players to this week long summer camp. Top coaches in the area come in work with players to help players further their skills. All players are screened to keep the level of play high speed.

Player Development Basics

What is SAHA Player Development? SAHA offers several programs. Most programs are offered by the year the player was born however, there are exceptions to this. If you're not familar with the programs please read the following before continuing.

1. USA Hockey Player development: Midget 16U and Bantam. MUST BE US CITIZEN TO PARTICIPATE AT THIS LEVEL. See appropriate age category This program is a series of tryouts to make it to the national player development camps. These camps are for the elite players, ie future college, NHL and Olympic hopefuls. Players compete at the affiliate level (SAHA) to advance to the district level (SE District) and then on to national camps for development. SAHA tryouts (also referred to at this level as Team South although that is a mis nomer as we do not select an actual team) are held in the spring and are open to all players playing in GA, LA, TN, MS, AL and AR. A player MUST be a US Citizen to advance to the SE District Tryouts.
